Our committee, sub-committee, coaches and instructors are made up of club members who freely volunteer their time to assist the club in its operation and activities. It is because of them that our club continues to thrive.

BCCC Committee

Rick Covell – Chair [NEW]
Rick has now completed a term as Treasurer and is now the club Chair from November 2025. He spends most of his time on the water and organises countless trips, delivering taster sessions and teaching Discover Courses, and repairing boats.
Rachel ER Neighbour – Secretary
Rachel joined us in 2021 and the committee in November 2023. She is the main contact for all members and third party partners and suppliers. She organises and minutes all committee meetings and AGMs, and manages the club website and social media communications, whilst enjoying touring trips and refining her paddling skills.
Steve Jones – Treasurer [NEW]
Steve became the club treasurer in November 2025, because he values what our club brings to the paddling community and wanted to play his part in ensuring its future.

Ross Phillips – Health and Safety Officer

Alex Christie – B3C Matters Editor in Chief [NEW]
Having rediscovered paddling after lockdown, Alex joined B3C in 2021 to improve his paddling. He quickly discovered racing and has rose through the ranks to become a division 6 paddler. You will also find him racing, touring and sea kayaking.
Zoé Griffiths – Annual Social Events and L1 Coach
Zoé is an enthusiastic paddler and volunteer willing to give ‘anything a go’. Happy in a racing boat, tourer, GP, Canadian canoe or even a SUP. She is a Level 1 Coach and member of the ‘Boat Repair Crew’. Her chief aim is to ensure all club paddlers have fun on and off the water, and achieve their goals in doing so. Zoé’s aspiration is to introduce more paddlers to the pleasure of paddling.
Sarah Francis – Trophies Lead and L1 Coach
Sarah’s primary kayaking interest is K1 and K2 marathon racing. She also enjoys sea kayaking. If she ever misses a race, it is because she is competing in an orienteering event.

BCCC Coaches

Paul Jeffs – Trip Coordinator and L3 Inland Kayak and L2 Racing Coach
Paul has served several roles in the club but today he has settled down to encouraging both marathon and white water disciplines – as well as taking part in both. Paul’s enthusiasm for canoeing never lets him down as can be seen from his grin! He holds the Level 3 (Inland Kayak), Level 2 Racing and Level 1 Slalom Coaching awards and isn’t frightened of paddling an open boat either. He is a real proponent of trying every paddle sport discipline from river running through racing and sea kayaking to polo and more.
Brian Biffin – L3 Coach
Brian is a Level 3 Coach. These days he prefers sea trips and Grade 2 inland paddles. He is also a qualified paddle boarder and a very keen skier.
Doug Cann – L3 Coach [NEW]
Doug has returned to kayaking after a 40 year gap, following his retirement in 2021. He has recently qualified as a Kayak Coach and is now on his journey to becoming a Whitewater Kayak Coach. He is enthusiastic about encouraging people to enjoy kayaking and improve their skills, to enable them to become independent paddlers.
Michelle Hughes – L3 Coach [NEW]
A UKCC Level 2 Kayak and Canoe Coach and qualified SUP Coach, Michelle is a highly enthusiastic paddler with over 15 years of coaching experience – and even more time spent on the water herself. From calm flatwater to lively rapids, she brings passion and expertise to every session. She delivers Start, Discover, Explore and the PaddleSport Safety & Rescue Courses (PSRC), supporting paddlers at every stage of their journey. Michelle is currently working towards her PaddleSport Instructor (PSI) Tutor Award, aiming to guide paddlers all the way from complete novice to future instructors.
Anne Biffin – L2 Coach
Anne is a UK CC Level 2 Coach. She enjoys sea kayaking, kayak touring, paddle boarding and open boating. She tries, with little success, to keep husband Brian in check.
